Agama agama (Red-headed Agama)

The Red-headed Agama (Agama agama) is a striking diurnal lizard found across sub-Saharan Africa, particularly in savanna and arid scrubland habitats. Males display the characteristic bright orange-red head and neck coloration seen here, with blue bodies and limbs, making them highly visible during territorial displays and basking sessions. These agamas are alert predators that feed on insects and small vertebrates, often perching on rocks and elevated surfaces to scan for prey and threats. Tsavo West National Park, in Kenya's Taita Taveta region, provides ideal habitat for these reptiles within the broader Northern Acacia-Commiphora bushlands ecosystem.
