Panthera pardus (Leopard)

The leopard (Panthera pardus) is a solitary carnivore found across Africa and Asia, with populations in India concentrated in forested regions like the East Deccan moist deciduous forests of central India. These forests provide essential habitat for leopards to hunt medium-sized prey and establish territories. In Madhya Pradesh's Kurai region, leopards inhabit the interface between dense forest and open areas, using rocky outcrops and forest floors as travel routes and hunting grounds. Adult leopards are highly territorial and typically avoid humans, making daytime encounters that result in direct eye contact rare and significant moments in wildlife observation.
