Dicrurus paradiseus (Greater Racket-tailed Drongo)
The Greater Racket-tailed Drongo is a striking black bird found across the Indian subcontinent, named for its distinctive long tail feathers that end in wire-like rackets. Males in breeding condition are highly territorial and vocal, often perching conspicuously while watching for intruders and prey. These acrobatic insectivores inhabit deciduous and moist broadleaf forests from the foothills of the Himalayas through central and southern India, where they are year-round residents. The species is known for its bold behavior and loud, harsh calls that echo through forest canopies during the breeding season.
