Anatidae (Ducks

The Common Goldeneye (Bucephala clangula) is a diving duck found across the northern temperate and boreal regions of North America, Europe, and Asia. These compact waterfowl breed on freshwater lakes and rivers, often nesting in tree cavities near glacially-fed waters. Females and non-breeding males display the brown head and gray body visible in flight, while breeding males are distinctive with their white bodies and dark green heads. Common Goldeneyes are highly migratory, with northern populations moving to ice-free lakes and coastal waters during winter. In summer, they inhabit clear, cold lakes like those found in the Northern Rockies conifer forests of Glacier National Park.
